![]() | Dr. Thomas Class Since 1992, Dr. Class has served as Scientific Director and CEO (Geschäftsführender Gesellschafter) for PTRL Europe GmbH. Dr. Class has decades of experience in residue, air, water and soil analysis, in e-fate, photolysis and metabolism, in batch and impurity analysis and in characterization of physical-chemical properties. He is an expert in all chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques (GPC, TLC, HPLC, GC, GC/MS/MS, LC/MS/MS, chiral chromatography, etc.) applied to the analysis of organic molecules. Dr. Class has a Diploma in Chemistry from the University of Ulm, Germany. For his diploma thesis he studied chromatographic and mass spectrometric properties of complex halogenated mixtures like the chlorinated insecticides toxaphene, chlordane and the DDT group, as well as the polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Dr. Class received his Doctor in environmental and analytical chemistry from the University of Ulm, studying with his mentor Professor Ballschmiter the global occurrence and persistence of volatile halogenated hydrocarbons in the remote troposphere. Additionally Dr. Class was involved in the analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-dioxins and -furans (PCDD/F). During his 2-year post-doctorate at the University of California, Berkeley, in Professor Casida's renowned PCTL/ECTL research group, Dr. Class specialized in GC/MS analysis and metabolism of pyrethroid insecticides and other pesticides. This research was continued by Dr. Class at the University of Ulm, applying chiral chromatography and GC/MS to study environmental and photolysis behavior of chiral pyrethroids. Numerous publications in his research area led to an habilitation (Dr. habil. rer. nat) and Dr. Class became faculty member at the University of Ulm, Germany. |
